Who we are
If you’re looking for a wedding speech writer with a difference then here we are… a small team of renegade TV scriptwriters and professional wordsmiths. We got together after Heidi got hitched, gave a bride’s speech and realised that, despite their reputation, wedding speeches could be rather good.
In 2015 she set up Speechy to ensure wedding guests no longer had to endure Googled-jokes, outdated etiquette and meaningless nonsense before sipping their champers.
During her 15 year TV career, Heidi had worked with a wealth of talented people (Richard Hammond, Dan Snow, Sharon Osbourne, David Mitchel, Mel Gieldroyc) but her favourite ones were the writers behind the scenes. When she set up Speechy she poached the best and now has a crack team of three under her guidance. One happens to be her husband.
In the Media...
Speechy are the go-to experts for modern speech advice.
In the run up to the Royal Wedding, the team were kept busy being interviewed across the media.
Among the highlights – being interviewed by Eamonn Holmes (who was desperate for advice on how to deliver a speech at his son’s wedding) and our tips being quoted on Radio 2 by the King of the Love Song, Steve Wright.
Our #thisbridewill campaign was also supported by BadassWomen’sHour.
The Speechy team includes James, Roger and Claire – all talented writers in their own right. Between them, they’ve won BBC writer awards, been included in the Edinburgh TV Festival’s Ones to Watch and featured in the BBC Hotlist. They’ve written for comedy shows on Radio 4, Dead Ringers and Horrible Histories, as well as government speeches but they’re all devoted to making wedding speeches better.
We want people to think about wedding speeches differently. Give a joint wedding speech, shake up the traditional line up, encourage everyone to give a spontaneous speech – whatever, just make sure your speeches are blooming brilliant.
